Teaching Methods
Classes are both theoretical and practical, involving lectures on the principles of information services management and analysis of national and international examples of best practices in Libraries and Archives. Assessment consists of a final written exam.
Learning Outcomes
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the general principles of management and its relevance for Archives and Libraries in the Information and Knowledge Society. Thus, the general goal is to acquaint students with the theoretical and critical bases that underlie the Management of Organizations based on a global view of what an organization is and also taking into account the context in which it develops and which affects its survival.
In terms of specific goals, students are expected to understand:
(i) the role played by management in organizations in the process of achieving excellence;
(ii) the specific features of management of Archive and Library Information Services;
(iii) the tools and techniques available in the various stages of the management process.
