Teaching Methods

Classes include lectures to introduce the topics of the syllabus, discussion, relevant literature review, and theoretical-practical work designed to illustrate the subjects. At the end of the semester, classes will be taken up with oral presentations by students and joint discussion of the work carried out. Continuous assessment involves the preparation and presentation of a practical work of research/application of knowledge and a test.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the semester the student should be able to:

Understand the nature of information resources in accordance with various perspectives;

Understand the aspects and issues involved in the organization and representation of information, linking them with History, Theory and Principles;

Understand the nature of the processes involved in creating instruments for organizing information;

Recognize the implications of the technologies used in the making of products;

Identify, in a elementary but correct manner, the nature and scope of the standards of description;

Correctly apply the terminology used in the field.

1. Information organization and representation.

1.1. Definition and objectives.

1.2. Theoretical foundations. Historical evolution, principles.

2. Organization and description of information in archives and libraries. Nature and specific objectives.

3. Products of the process of organization and representation of information. Distincticve aspects and underlying principles.

4. Technologies used in the making of products: implications in the methods used to achieve their objectives and ensure access to the objects.

5. Relationship between organization, representation, retrieval and use of information.

6. Standards used in the representation of information. Framework, principles and nature.

7. FRBR. Scope, objectives and relevance. Study of chapter 3: Entities.
