Teaching Methods

This course includes theoretical and practical components, drawing on the resources available at the Faculty of Arts. The theoretical component involves lectures as well as analysis and discussion of reference texts. The practical component involves carrying out individual or group tasks, namely online research of sources, development of a bibliographic database, analysis of works and bibliographic references, and conducting a reference interview. In addition, the instructor provides individual guidance to students.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course students should be able to:

a) demonstrate a grasp of the fundamental terminology of the field;

b) recognize the importance of bibliography and standardization in the current information environment;

c) understand the role played by national and international bibliographic services;

d) understand the functions, goals and profile of reference services;

e) understand the process of development of national and international standards;

f) distinguish, use and cite different types of information sources in a standardized manner.

In accordance with the guidelines of the document Euroguide LIS / Group I - Information, at the end of this course students should have developed specific skills in the following areas:

a) relationship with users of information services;

b) identification and assessment of information sources;

c) information search.
