Introductory Lectures and Research Seminar.
Most of the time will be occupied with the discussion of the texts and analysis of the philosophical issues they raise.
Learning Outcomes
Course aims:
a) To teach students how to read extended philosophical texts in depth;
b) To encourage reflection on key aspects of the human condition;
c) To promote the exercise of critical reading and writing.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the course, the students will be able to demonstrate intellectual, transferable and practical skills appropriate to this academic level and in particular will be able to demonstrate:
a) knowledge and understanding of classic philosophical arguments as presented in their original contexts
b) capability to paraphrase and explain philosophical arguments in their own words.
c) how to conduct a detailed analysis of texts, theories and arguments.
d) Comprehend and make use of specialized philosophical terminology in the production of a philosophy paper following a well defined methodology.

Research Seminar. This Seminar provides the opportunity for advanced studies on philosophical issues to the students interested in fostering their knowledge, going beyond the introductory level of other disciplines. Topics and texts discussed will vary according to the selection made for each semester and can cross very different topics and authors, according to the preferences and expertise of the responsible professors.
Indicative exemplification: the course may concentrate on one major work of a philosopher (Plato’s Republic or Timaeus; Aristotle’s De anima or Nicomachean Ethics, Descartes’ Meditations, Hume’s Treatise of Human Nature, Kant, Critique of Pure Reason) or on one special issue (for instance, “fate, determinism and freedom”, “Theories of perception”, “Relation configurations”, “Philosophy and Medicine”, “Philosophy and Literature”).
Nota Bene: before each semester’s beginning, a detailed syllabus will be published.
