Teaching Methods

Teaching methods are of theoretical-practical nature, where the theoretical approach is composed by lecturing classes by the professor, while the practical one comprehends the active participation of students. In this part, academic readings are required, followed by debates in classes, and the undertaking of a work exploring an historical dimension of European integration. 

Learning Outcomes

The cu provides the understanding on the European integration from an historical perspective.

Students are expected to:

1. Understand the integration as raised by specific motivations and historical contexts of the 20th century

2. Understand and be able to rationalize the institutional exceptionality of the first European Communities in the International System

3. Acquire ground knowledge about the stages of integration and the functional dynamics of its evolution

4. Know that such evolution corresponds to an institutional organic development

5. Understand the constraints, the progresses and stagnations of integration conditioned by European and international historical junctures

6. Understand the EU as an evolving process and a political system in progress

7. Develop critical awareness about the constraints and threats, successes and pitfalls of the integration process

8. Think critically, with scientific ground, the current status and the future of the EU.

6. Challenges of the new millennium: from Amsterdam to Lisbon (2000-2007)

7. From the crisis to the crises: Eurozone, refugees, euroscepticism, disintegration (2008-2019)
