Teaching Methods

The class is theoretical-practical in nature. Accordingly, the most appropriate teaching strategies and methodologies will be used for active and innovative teaching. A diligent, consistent and critical participation of students will be encouraged in order to make them actively participate in the construction of workshops and the production of a good part of their own learning. To this end, they should prepare and submit topics prearranged with the teacher, reporting, writing small research papers, organize and participate in discussions and educational seminars.

Learning Outcomes

As it is not possible to cover all of European history, this class will focus on the period between the end of Antiquity and the last years of the nineteenth century, within which we will concentrate on of recognized importance importance in the evolution of European society.  The proposed program will strive to provide elements that take account of the changes, sometimes profound, and the diversity and richness of the history of Europe in those times.  It is intended that students at the end of the semester will have developed the following skills: a) increased knowledge of European history, particularly in the themes that will be part of the focus of this class; b) improving their perception of different civilizational contexts that shaped European society and shaped its history; c) understanding of events, institutions, concepts and players who contributed to the construction of medieval, modern and contemporary European history.
