Teaching Methods
Theoretical background of the material, historical character and discussion of available sources of information; analysis of selected texts.
Motivate students to read texts critically and discuss them in class.
Presentation of individual projects for group discussion.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. Recognize the chief Greek author of Historiography and Philosophy, and also the main forms and themes belonging to each of the two genres;
2. Analyze ancient Greek texts;
3. Discuss the main bibliography.

Through the analysis of the ancient texts and the discussion of modern criticism we propose a diachronic study of Classical Historiography and Philosophy.
Texts from Herodotus, Thucydides and Plato will be considered for analysis.
Priority will be given the following:
1. Forms and themes, tradition and inovation in each of the genres;
2. Interpretation and critics about tradition taking into account the immediate context;
3. Dialogue between different genres and intersections between different authors.
