Teaching Methods
The teaching methodology is based on reading, grammatical, linguistic, stylistic and metrical comment, and translation of latin authors.
The theoretical contents of the curricular unit will be presented through lectures based on practical cases. Students are encouraged to apply the competences acquired through practical working sessions, including the analysis of case studies and exercises.
Learning Outcomes
Students should master the grammatical structures of Latin morphology and syntax, and become acquainted with the most important rules of Latin historical phonetics.

I. Reading, grammatical, linguistic, stylistic and metrical comment, and translation of texts from some of the following authors:
- Vergil;
- Horace;
- Ovid:
II. Grammar:
1. Phonology:
Latin consonantism, assimilation and dissimilation of consonants, the simplification of geminated letters and the assibilation.
2. Morphology and lexical formation:
Defective, impersonal and semideponent verbs; adverb and adjective degrees, superlative degree (synthetic and analytical forms). Adverbs of manner. Word composition and derivation. Semantics and etymology.
3. Syntax, stylistics and semantics:
Systematization and in-depth study of syntax of modes and tenses, the modal attraction, the active and the passive periphrastic construction and of the subordinated clauses
III Metric and Prosody: Revision and consolidation of the study of the concept of amount and of the scansion of dactylic hexameter, of the elegiac couplet and some aeolian metre verses and stanzas.
