Back-translation exercises.
Learning Outcomes
Students will gain a knowledge of the characteristics of the Ionic and Doric dialects, understanding how to match them with their counterparts in Attic dialect.
A complete knowledge of the morphology and syntax of ancient Greek, which translates into the understanding original texts, and the ability to develop literary translations.

I. Reading, commentary and translation of selected passages, written in Ionic and Doric:
- Ionic prose: Herodotus, Histories, Books II and IX;
- Doric poetry: Theocritus, Idylls (selected passages from the so-called "Doric poems")
II. Grammar and stylistic issues
- Characteristics of new Ionic and Doric dialects;
- Revision and systematisation of morphological and syntactic aspects raised by the texts;
- Improvement of literary translation.
