Learning Outcomes

This course aims for an intense work on scientific discourse in Arts. It aims to improve the student's capacity for argument, sound and articulated, for each of the graduation areas: Cinema, Music and Theatre.

It strives for a stronger critical and scientific autonomy.

Each Seminar class (Cinema, Music Theatre) pursuits these goals working a general theme or several case studies:

CINEMA

- Discussing the meaning of film language and strategies of mise-en-scene used by filmmakers in order to address cinema as a source for history.

THEATRE

- Work about the concepts of metatrality and performance as a stimulus for reflection and a reason to review the complex relationships between word and gesture.

MUSIC

-understanding the modes and practices of scientific and artistic research in music and sound

- critical reading of articles, chapters and reviews published in the area of musicology

-development of a dossier centered on a research problem.

THEATRE

The topics covered in this seminar can range from issues of a thematic nature and issues of a technical-compositional nature, evaluating the dynamics of “text” and “performance”, the dialogue between theatricality and scenic representation of the human. Ex: (i) theme "Comic and Theater"; (ii) theme "Pathologies in/of theatre: Theater and Medicine"

• Introduction to scientific and artistic discourse of research in music.

• Annotation: article, chapter, book. Critical review.

• Research themes in music. Index and planning.

• Organization of bibliography; quote; grades.

• “Problems” in music research: arguments and methodologies.

Assessment is on a continuous basis, using the following, among other possible elements, as a basis: a) active participation in debates and presentation of thematic reports b) completion of a research report using documental sources c) a written test in class: 100.0%
