- Analysis, interpretation and discussion of scripts, films or musical works.

- Research and analysis produced/delivered in the classroom, individual or group.

Learning Outcomes

This course aims for an intense work on scientific discourse in Arts. It aims to improve the student's capacity for argument, sound and articulated, for each of the graduation areas: Cinema, Music and Theatre.

It strives for a stronger critical and scientific autonomy.

Each Seminar class (Cinema, Music Theatre) pursuits these goals working a general theme or several case studies:

CINEMA

• know some of the theoretical and critical texts about Robert Bresson’s work

• reflect on the artist’s writings, Notes on Cinematograph

• watching and discussing in detail all of the filmmaker’s films

THEATRE

• Work about the concept of metatrality as a stimulus for reflection and a reason to review the complex relationships between word and gesture.

MUSIC

• critical reading of several Musicology reference papers;

• learning, by example, of the different methodologies for research on Music (Historical Musicology, Ethnomusicology, Performance Studies, etc.).

THEATRE

The topics covered in this class can range from ordering of themes and issues of a technical and compositional nature. Ex: the theme "Comedy and Theatre" will teach students to reflect on the complex meaning of the comic and the dramaturgy mechanisms and theater. The class is assessed not only from the comedian to laughter, but also on the various techniques that shape it, the script and the scene, and their public's response.

MUSIC

• The case studies vary accordingly the student's interests. The chosen themes (eg. "Is it possible to renew traditional music?", Authenticity in music", "Retromania and music", etc.) are worked through critical reading of published papers and discussion in class. It also allows the identification and evaluation of the different research methodologies enhancing the student's scientific autonomy.

Assessement
Assessment is on a continuous basis, using the following, among other possible elements, as a basis: a) active participation in debates and presentation of thematic reports b) completion of a research report using documental sources c) a written test in class: 100.0%
