Teaching Methods

A few classes shall be in the form of lecture, namely, the ones concerning historical context and theoretical framework.

Debate involving the students is the central teaching-learning methodology. Most classes shall focus on the critical analysis of art works representing the human body, in articulation with the reflection offered by critical essays that address issues pertaining the syllabus. 

Learning Outcomes

To understand the importance of the human body in contemporary artistic representations;

To understand the epistemological challenges of the act of reading body representations;

To understand the continuities and the ruptures in the formal and political strategies used in body representations;

To understand the processes of legitimation of certain objects as art;

To understand the processes of canon formation and its resulting exclusions;

To learn how to read art critically.
