Teaching Methods

The teaching methodology is fundamentally theoretical-practical in nature, involving reading and critical commentary of texts, as well as regular and intense analysis of recorded and live shows.

A wide range of media and document files will be used in this class, with special attention to photo archives and video files. Students will take an in-class written exam. In-class work will consist of analysis and criticism. The class will visit live shows and the final reports will be published in the class blog, after editorial review by the students themselves.

Identify the analytical goals of theatre;

- Understand and apply the fundamental concepts and different analytical tools of theatre;

- Understand the relationship between theatre and how it is received;

- Ability to analyze a theatrical production, in terms of form, meaning and historical context, producing a structured and critical essay based on the theory and history of theatre.

- Identify the objectives of critical discourse on theatre.

- Describe the origin and evolution of theatre analysis up to present time.

- Distinguish between the different modalities of theatre analysis.

- Ability to write a critical review in a professional manner.

- Theatre analysis: between the experience and the review; - Theatre analysis tools (description, notation, documentation and mediation); - Production concepts in the performing arts; - Components of the play (actor, voice, sound, space, time and action); - How it's received

- The emergence of the review and using public space;

- The institutional divisions of theatre analysis, between the university and journalism;

- The ethics, aesthetics and ideology that have historically impacted critical discourse;

- Types of critical discourse: structure (review, testing, press release), style and language;

- Critique of contemporary creative procedures: the "state of dramaturgical spirit" (B. Dort) and the issues of authorship, dramaturgy and adaptation.

- Critical reviews in the periodic press: presentation of cases and general conclusions.
