Teaching Methods

The classes will be both theoretical and practical. The presentation of each artistic movement will be contextualized and accompanied by image analysis.

Learning Outcomes

1. To recognize and characterize the main artistic movements and their theoretical positions of the first half of the twentieth century, relating them to the historical context in which they were produced;

2.To identify authors and reference works in the artistic production of the late nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century;

3. To analyze the artistic object in its specificity, understanding it as "cultural document" of its time;

4. To characterize the evolution of the concept of art, relating it to the continuities and ruptures of the artistic production of  the first half of the twentieth century;

5. To question the uniqueness of the concept of modernism, recognizing its plurality;

6. To relate the "alternative modernities" and the resistance to the artistic avant-garde with the process of modernization and the different attitudes / responses it has generated.
