Teaching Methods

Work in this unit will be divided between lecture moments (by the teacher or by students) and group analysis and discussion of texts and documents.

Learning Outcomes

This course unit is destined to provide to students a systemic knowledge of literature, in its multiple dimensions (historical, social, institutional, aesthetic, etc.). As a general principle, it intends to show that, when being read, texts demand themselves certain kinds of answers that are already of a theoretical nature.

At the end of the semester, students should be capable of (i) recognizing and using the theoretical terminology presented by the unit; (ii) recognizing and relating information to new texts (whether literary or not) and situations; (iii) demonstrating a capacity to provide arguments, intellectual rigour and critical thought, orally or by writing, in this field of study.
