Home readings of texts, maps, etc. The teacher will open the lecture by exposing a theme through the support of texts and images, with the intention of inducing collective debate about fundamental facts and concepts.

1. African civilization: human and physical geography. The African slave trade, the Berlin Conference and Modern Colonialism.
2. Cheik Anta Diop’s theories and Afrocentrism. Black Renaissance and Modernity: Pan-africanism, Negritude and national liberation.
3. Ancient Africa in the Modern Africa: masters of knowledge, sonorities and writing.
3.1. Ancient kingdoms.  Dogons, Ogotommeli and cosmogony.
3.2. Brief introduction to Islam. The Fulas and the Sufis.  Amadou Hampâté Bâ and the ancient texts.
3.3. The oral epic, writing and music.
4. Angola. Outlining history and society. Painting and other arts.
5. Mozambique. Outlining history and society. Painting and other arts.
6. Cape Verde. Outlining history and society. Culture and creoleness.
7. São Tomé and Príncipe. Outlining history and society. Traditional theater and other arts.
