Italian Literature of the Classicism

Recommended Prerequisites

Italian knowledge equivalent to the B1 level of the CEFRL.

Teaching Methods

- Theoretical exposition, analysis of texts by the professor, viewing of framing materials.

- Contact with libraries and bibliographic specimens, guided management of platforms.

- Analysis of texts by students, individually or in groups, under the guidance of the professor, presentation and summary of texts.

Learning Outcomes

- Know the themes, works and authors studied and be able to contextualize them in their context.

- Understand the general structures of Classicism in Italy and its overall impact on other literatures.

- Master research instruments and have reflection skills that enable the study of other works of Italian Classicism.

Syllabus

In the general framework of Classicism, a specific theme, a selection of works or authors will be studied.

Theme (e.g.): The female portrait.

- Effects of the female figure, loving phenomenology. Sicilian school. Group members, themes and poetic forms.

- The angel woman. “Dolce stil novo”. Chronology, poets.

- Laura's fiction and the dissent. Francesco Petrarca. Humanism. Intellectual path.

- The various dimensions of love. Giovanni Boccaccio, “Decameron”. Intellectual path.

- The 16th century gallery. Literary portrait and pictorial portrait. Andrea del Sarto and the petrarchism.

- The baroque profusion. Giovan Battista Marino. Intellectual path. Maritime poems.
