Teaching Methods

1) Theoretical analysis, analysis of texts by the teacher, viewing of contextualizing materials.

2) Contact with libraries and bibliographic specimens, oriented handling of platforms.

3) Analysis of texts by students, individually or in groups, under the guidance of the teacher, exercises of presentations and resuming texts.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the semester, the students are expected to:

1) Know the pieces and authors studied and be able to contextualize them in their context.

2) Understand the general structures of Classicism in Italy and its overall impact on other European literatures.

3) Master research instruments and have reflection skills that enable the study of other pieces of Italian Classicism

Syllabus

On the basis of the cathegory of Classicism, three pieces will be studied

1) Classicism (the concept). Ancients and Moderns. Imitation. The literary and aesthetic system of Classicism. Rules. Genres of poetry.

2) Humanism and Renaissance. F. Petrarca. Life and work. The Chansonnier: title, structure, elaboration; the woman, the spatio-temporal continuum and the poet; rhetoric, metric forms. Petrarchism

3) Renaissance encoding. J. Sannazaro. Life and work. Neapolitan cultural and political environment. Polycentrism of Italian Renaissance and networks. Arcadia: title, structure, stages, editions; fonts, themes and symbols; rhetoric, metric forms. The bucolic and pastoral book as an European model

4) Neoclassicism and the Roman Arcadia. Foundation, program, members. From Rome to Europe and Brazil. Poetry, Rolli, Chiabrera, Testi: lexicon, rhetorics, metric forms. Music and theater: Metastasio, Didone and its circulation.

The pieces and authors can vary depending on the academic staff.
