Recommended Prerequisites

Italian knowledge equivalent to the C1-introduction level of the CSFRL.

Teaching Methods

- Communicative-formative approach for the acquisition of grammatical and communicative structures.

- Use of specific teaching materials for level C1 of the CEFRL.

- Use of different teaching materials: 1. Manual "Affresco italiano" (culture and communicative skills); 2. Manual "L'italiano" (2nd part: communication, uses, texts); 3. Audiovisual material.

- Development of an in-depth reflection, oral or written, on a work of fine arts or a film.

Learning Outcomes

Within the end of the semester, the students will improve their metalinguistic skills, and thy will develop their oral and written production and understanding, which will meet the C1 level of the CEFRL.

- Develop a metalinguistic reflection on the fundamental structures of the Italian contemporary language (communication, uses and texts).

- Produce and recognize, in the oral and written texts of this level, the lexical-syntactic and syntactic-semantic structures.

- Use the language in a creative and flexible way, interacting properly and correctly in predictable and unpredictable situations.

- Defend points of view / ideas (thesis), using main and secondary arguments; emphasize arguments to refute counter arguments; conclude in a coherent way, reinforcing the validity of a thesis; present examples and illustrations.

- Recognize the intrinsic relations between language and culture, namely through the analysis of critical texts on art and cinema and literary texts.

Syllabus

1. Grammatical structures, morphosyntax and vocabulary: NOUNS: plural of compound names (“doposcuola”, “cavolfiori”, “capolavori”, etc.). ADJECTIVE: fixed expressions quality-name adjective (“dolce vita”, etc.); modified base adjectives; adjectives without absolute superlative (“eccezionale”, etc.). PRONOUNS: “mi / ti / vi + ci” sequences; “ce+lo/la/li/le”; pronouns and adjectives defined for rare use (“taluni”, etc.). VERBS: past and present participle: adjectival and nominal uses; verbal uses; consolidation of the subjunctive and the conditional.

2. Syntax: consolidation of the concordance of tenses in the main and subordinate sentences with indicative, subjunctive, past tense.

3. Development theme: Arts (specific theme: Amedeo Modigliani); cinema (specific theme: Mediterraneo, by G. Salvatores).

4. Improve the metalinguistic and socio-linguistic reflection.
