Teaching Methods

1) Theoretical analysis, analysis of texts by the teacher, viewing of contextualizing materials.

2) Contact with libraries and bibliographic specimens, oriented handling of platforms.

3) Analysis of texts by students, individually or in groups, under the guidance of the teacher, exercises of presentations and resuming texts.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the semester, the students are expected to:

1) Know the studied piece, its author and its historical and literary context.

2) Be familiar with the readings made throughout the semester and be able to discuss them in its general aspects.

3) Understand why the work was given the value of a classic.

4) Have strengthened reading skills and be able of apply them with pleasure to other literary works.

Syllabus

The study of a great piece of Italian literature will be lead; it may belong to any period and to any genre, chosen from any among their classics. The choice will take into account factors related to our contemporary times which may make the study of certain works more stimulating, as well as factors related to the specific group of students and their interests.

1) Why read the classics: Italo Calvino. Stories of Italian literature: the classic Asor Rosa. Procedures for the recognition of the great pieces.

2) Presentation of the piece. Genesis, history, title.

3) The book and the author. Precedents and models.

4) Structure.

5) Themes, motives, forms.

6) The classics and time. Critical tradition and balance.
