Teaching Methods

Learning processes of advanced levels of foreign languages are carefully put into practice. Each syllabus topic will be presented with care and in detail. Students will work in the following areas:

- Grammar « à la carte», according to their needs

- Reading comprehension exercises

- Comparative translation

- Discussion of contemporary themes

- Study of French and Francophone novels

- Text writing.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, students are expected to attain level C1 in the CERFL.

The syllabus aims to develop linguistic proficiency and to correct several structures already introduced, but not yet mastered. Students will work according to their needs and they will review the following topics: agreement, relatives pronouns, tenses and modes in subordination. They will also translate lusisms, false friends and prepositions.

Students are expected to be fluent. They will read contemporary texts and francophone “Nouvelles”, in order to develop tjeir oral and written proficiency. They will also learn about francophone cultures.

Grammar and Text:

- The verb: time, modality, aspect and voice.

- Connecting and framing devices (conjonctions / locutions, infinitif / subjonctif, names, verbs, invariable expressions): cause, consequence, aim, wish, condition, opposition, restriction

- Figures of speech

- Text types (descriptive, poetic, press texts)

 

Lexikon:

- Idiomatic expressions

- Registers: argot, verlan, parler des jeunes

 

Socio-cultural Topics:

- Connotations

- Presentations

- Discussions: how to express ann opinion, how to take a stand

- Interviews.
