Teaching Methods

Intermediate level language learning processes use language practice and translation tasks of multimodal documents prepared before class. Students will practise their skills through analysis and rewriting of selected texts, in order to develop a formal and fluent complex expression.

Learning Outcomes

- To develop communicative skills in French in various social and academic life areas. These will help students to master communicative, linguistic and social knowledge and know-how beyond French 3 level;

- To master foreign language learning strategies introduced in previous levels, in order to develop learning autonomy;

- To develop reading in French in specific subjects from Social Sciences and Humanities.

Syllabus

Topics: Current trends – Literature – Arts – Areas of knowledge

Grammar: Complex sentence – Simple and complex tenses (passé simple – futur antérieur – passé antérieur - subjonctif passé) – Nominal tenses (gérondif – participe) - Pronominal passive – Relatives – Tense agreement

Vocabulary: to be chosen according to the topics discussed in class.

Language uses: Formal speech and writing in professional and academic contexts (formal letters; job interview; CV) - Technical languages - Presenting and sustaining arguments in writing - Synthesis, compte rendu.
