Teaching Methods
Grammar, lexicon and language uses are learned through practice in class and in homework. Students will also work with multimodal products. These are designed to help them to develop their communication skills in writing, reading, speaking and listening.
Learning Outcomes
- To develop communicative skills in French in various social and academic life areas. These will help students to master communicative, linguistic and social knowledge and know-how beyond French 1 level.
- To introduce French culture and Francophonie topics, in order to help learning in French Culture and Francophone Cultures;
- To master foreign language learning strategies introduced in French 1 and to be used in subsequent levels, especially in writing and reading;
- To prepare students for reading in French in specific subjects from Social Sciences and Humanities.

Topics: Daily French life - Francophonie - Present day issues (post-colonialism, immigration, racism, exclusion, integration) - Academic life in French universities
Grammar: Interrogative and Exclamative sentences - Word order with simple/complex tenses - Coordination (mais-ou-et-donc-car) and complex sentences with indicatif - Past (PC, IMP, PR) and future tenses (futur proche) - Direct and indirect object personal pronouns
Phonetics: Differences between tenses (present/imparfait/participe passé/infinitif) - [ɛ̃], [ɔ̃], [ɑ̃] e [œ̃] – Spelling (phoneme / grapheme)
Vocabulary: Urban and rural life – Daily routines – Events - Academic life
Language uses: Politeness and treatment forms – Communication of feelings, requests, advice, propositions, perceptions, opinions, preferences, greetings - Short stories, descriptions, telling personal, professional and academic experiences - Formal communications.
