Syllabus

The self-study grammar work begun in Inglês 1 continues with a review of the verb group, in which students consider tense, mood and transitivity. Problematic areas (particularly in relation to the use of tenses) are again addressed in the classroom.

The work on general competence (in terms of reading, writing, listening and speaking) also continues in this semester, with special attention being given to the genre of summary writing.

Students are introduced to the early history of the English language, and look at some of the features of both Old English and Middle English. This component of the course points forward to the study of Early Modern English in the third language semester, and to the study of Middle English texts on literature courses.
