Classes based on discussion of texts and the presentation of both written and oral work produced by students. 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the semester, students will be able to

1. identify the basic geography of the country and discuss some of the key moments in Canadian history

2. describe and discuss the complexity of Canadian culture.

3. analyse and discuss Canadian cinema.

4. analyse and discuss examples of contemporary Canadian art.

Syllabus

This course sets out to introduce students to Canadian culture focusing on cinema, both feature Elms and documentaries, and visual art. The geography and history, including the contemporary history of the country are central. The representation of First Nations and the cultural production of west coast nations is explored.
