Teaching Methods
Theoretical and practical classes are based on the presentation and discussion of the syllabus, and the expository method will serve only to contextualize subjects. Concurrently, students are encouraged to participate actively in classes and motivated to develop different abilities and skills. Case studies, the viewing and criticism of multimedia content, the analysis of legislation, and individual/group exercises are also promoted. Study/technical visits are promoted to encourage reflective and critical observation, along with the contact with organizations (entities/companies/associations).
Learning Outcomes
The main goal is to equip students with solid knowledge and operational skills in the organization and management of tourist events. More specifically, students are expected to acquire and consolidate knowledge on special events, especially those targeting tourism; the structure of the events market; the stages in the organization of an event; and the critical factors in organizing an event with the ability to attract visitors.
By the end of this unit, students should be able to: define special event; classify events according to different criteria; distinguish between event as a product and event as a positioning strategy; identify specific operational needs for each stage in the organization of an event; analyse each of the critical factors in organizing and managing an event, understanding their magnitude and giving examples of real situations; and point out societal trends and their effects on tourism and leisure events.
