Teaching Methods

The curricular unit works with theoretical and practical classes. 

The theoretical classes constitute the fundamental matrix for the presentation of the syllabus, based on expository methods (supported in computer and electronic resources). The practical lessons intend to expand the reflection and deepening the knowledge of theoretical subjects, through critical analysis of texts (and other documents) and works of initiation into research, supported by bibliography and field tasks, enhancing the collection, processing and analysis of information, as well as its presentation and defense.

Learning Outcomes

This curricular unit aims to provide expertise and promote the application of knowledge about tourism and its relations to sustainable development. At the end of the semester students must be able to:

a) Recognize the dimensions of spatial planning and sustainable development.

b) Identify territorial management instruments.

c) Understand the models and development policies.

d) Explain the evolutionary trends of tourism and the theoretical discussion on subjects such as accessibility, ethics and accountability. 

e) Clarify the guidelines and national instruments for tourism.

f) Analyze the geographic expression of tourism from the perspective of resources and products.

g) Relate the recent territorial dynamics with tourist activity. 

h) Discuss the relevance of policies and instruments for development centred on tourism and its social, economic and territorial impact, in national geographic and international contexts.
