Teaching Methods

Lessons with participative and theoretical discussion of the themes, complemented with the analysis of practical examples and the use of texts, maps and other materials, in addition to practical issues researched and presented by the students.

Learning Outcomes

Students will gain a knowledge of cultural diversity on a global scale, how this diversity is expressed in landscapes, its dynamics and how culture and cultural landscapes may be important for the development of peoples, especially through tourism.

1 - Culture and Territory.  General information on the concept of Cultural Geography.

2 - Cultural and landscape diversity on a global scale.  Travel and synthetic analysis.

3 - Concepts of cultural landscape.  The multidimensionality of cultural landscapes, from the sound to the olfactory landscapes.

4 - The dynamics, diffusion processes and players in the shaping of cultural landscapes. Increase the role of diasporas and the State in the construction of landscape.

5 - Urban cultural landscape.  From modernity to postmodernity. 

6 - The cultural landscape and local development dynamics in urban and rural contexts.  The role of tourism.
