Teaching Methods

Favouring active learning methodologies, the contents will be discussed and illustrated, whenever possible, with examples, whereas urging students to present their knowledge on the various themes. Self-checking exercises will be carried out using online platforms.

The analysis of case studies, communications from invited experts and field work encourage students to get closer to the reality of tourism and their training regarding of tourist enhancement of the intangible heritage.

Learning Outcomes

The general objective of the course is to provide students with solid knowledge and skills in the context of the interconnections between intangible heritage and tourism. Specifically, it is intended that students acquire and consolidate knowledge about:

− the fundamental concepts of intangible cultural heritage;

− the potential of tourism on the conservation and enhancement of intangible cultural heritage;

− specific and particularly relevant intangible cultural resources.

 

After the course, students should be able to:

− understand the fundamentals of intangible cultural heritage;

− identify the most relevant cultural resources of the Portuguese intangible heritage;

− critically analyze the possible positive and negative impacts of tourism;

− recognize the potential role of tourism in the conservation and enhancement of intangible cultural heritage;

− design and implement strategies to enhance relevant intangible cultural resources.
