Teaching Methods

The curricular unit will operate on a theoretical-practical basis: presentation of content, clarification of doubts and orientation of tasks by teachers; preparation, presentation and discussion of tasks by students.

Learning Outcomes

It aims to characterize the conceptions of cultural heritage and museology (with emphasis on ecomuseums), the virtualities of the activities in question for the growth of tourism and for sustainable development; remember theoretical categories and significant empirical information for understanding the museological reality, for the operationalization of cooperation vectors between cultural heritage, museums, tourist activity and sustainable development. It will be possible to acquire skills in identifying the characteristics of the different types of cultural heritage and in evaluating the quality of certain museological practices; planning of tourist offer that enhances the virtualities resulting from the existence of relevant centers of cultural heritage and museums; realization of intervention strategies by tourist agents that result in the establishment of an effective relationship with those responsible for cultural heritage and museums.

1- History and sociology of heritage - cultural and natural - and museum concepts. 2- Evolution of the notion of cultural heritage and practices around this reality. 3- Museum currents: traditional museology, new museology and postmodern museology. 4- Typology of museum structures and of vectors of interaction with “civil society”. 5- Collaboration modalities between research, cultural heritage and museums, organizational culture and territorial marketing, tourism and leisure. 6- Deontological issues and economics, crossed strategies to promote the development and deepening of democracy, transversal approach to issues of cultural heritage and museology. 7- Situation of cultural heritage and museology in Portugal. 8- Comparison between the Portuguese reality and developments in other countries.
