Teaching Methods

Student participation will be promoted given the need for knowledge of the social and economic value of leisure. This methodology, associated with the exhibition, allows the interpretation of the influence of Tourism and Leisure and the way in which societies, in historical times, interpreted leisure and work. Fieldwork and practical tasks will be raised in the approach to sustainability, mobility and the geography of tourism and leisure. The collection, analysis, and processing of information and its communication are valued with the strategic plans for tourism and territorial impact.

Learning Outcomes

Identify the social and economic value of leisure in contemporary society;

Explain and disambiguate concepts associated with social times, leisure practices and tourism;

Know and discuss concepts of socioeconomic organization as antecedents of people's motivations and decision-making in relation to tourism and leisure;

Understand how work and leisure define behaviors;

Explore the influence of territories and their sustainability on tourism and leisure;

Understand how tourism and leisure contribute to local development;

Identify different models of tourist mobility and development of tourist territories;

Know the national dimensions of tourism strategies;

Develop communication skills in both oral and written dimensions;

Discuss opinions in a group context;

Value types of tourism and leisure;

Collect, analyze and interpret data and information from primary and secondary sources.

1. The importance of a new socio-economic paradigm: leisure.

2. Tourism and leisure in territorial development. Strengths and weaknesses. Impact on the structure of household expenditure.

3. The nature and foundations of leisure and tourism geography. Principles and evolution of concepts.

4. Leisure and society: socio-economic evolution and the valorization of leisure time. Dualities, free will and control.

5. Consumption and leisure. Places, territories and leisure practices. Democratization and elitization. Norms and transgressions.

6. The social interpretations that structure socioeconomics and culture.

7. World code of ethics for tourism.

8. Peri-urban leisure.

9. Night-time leisure.
