Teaching Methods

The presentation of the topics will be done using the bibliography (books and articles) and the websites of leading institutions (UNESCO and European Union), where students can obtain reports, studies, and relevant information about the matters under discussion.

Students will be given other sources where they can access the relevant information that allows them to complete exercises using national and international references subordinated to the general theme "Heritage and its geographies: heritage resource inventory and tourism route planning.

Learning Outcomes

The purpose of this class is to strengthen the theoretical and practical knowledge of the importance tourist routes and heritage have in development processes, both territorial (regional and local) as well as sectoral, particularly in tourism. This implies pursuing two complementary goals:

a) Present and discuss subjects that enable a deeper understanding of topics such as:

. Tourist routes: circuits, destinations, itineraries;

. Heritage resources of the territory: classification, identification, regulatory framework;

. Heritage and development: resources, policies, strategies.

b) To acquire practical skills through the analysis of some notable routes, thematic and territorial, national and international inventory of heritage resources and planning exercises of tourist routes.

Syllabus

The following themes around which the class is  structured will be presented and discussed:

1. Tourist routes: circuits, destinations, itineraries; Routes and itineraries: origin, evolution, concepts.  Destinations: Travel and tourist destinations.  Roadmaps: literature and image

2. Heritage resources of the territory: classification, identification, regulatory framework; Heritage: concepts and typologies.  Heritage "Values": territories, places, sites, monuments.  Legal framework.

3. Heritage and development: resources, policies, strategies. Heritage and local identity: heritage promotion and qualification of the territory.  Heritage and public policy.  Heritage and qualification of the territory (regional and local): territorial development strategies

4. Heritage and their geographies: from national and international routes, exercises on the inventory of heritage resources, organization and planning of tourist routes will be proposed.
