Theoretical-practical classes using exposure and debate of the class themes.

Learning Outcomes

Students will understand Hispania's role in the Roman world and recognize the traces left behind from a Provincial Archaeology perspective.
Introduction to the study of the archaeological realities of the far west of the peninsula (particularly in what is now Portuguese territory) from the beginning of the 2nd century BC, with special emphasis on archaeological sites, materials and contexts.

1. Sources for the study of Roman Hispania;
2. The military conquest (the initial process of building up Roman Hispania since the arrival in Empuries in 218 B.C.);
3. Administrative organisation, territorial reorganisation and the management of natural resources;
4. From the cities to the countryside: from architecture to productive activities (from ‘models’ to regional diversity);
5. The profile of Hispano-Roman society and the demand for the sacred;
6. The last century of Roman Hispania;
7. Research: balance and prospects.
