Teaching Methods

Classes will be in person with digital support. Extensive use of images illustrating the various components of the course content. Throughout the semester students will be confronted with several case studies, (teacher or by colleagues), where they will try to make known tourism projects associated with the archaeological heritage.

Analysis and commentary of texts and images, paying particular attention to case studies and shared examples; museums, musealized archaeological sites, routes, and cultural landscapes. An appeal will be made to the capacity for reflection and problem solving.

Learning Outcomes

– Understand the national and international standards in archaeology.

– Understand the tools for land use planning in the context of archaeological heritage, in particular with respect to city planning.

– Analyze the intervention and protection of archaeological sites, namely real estate.

– Develop a critical reflection about the valuation processes of archaeological sites, circuits and parks.

– Reflect on archaeological site management models.

– Understand the EU program for the support of research and valuation of cultural heritage projects.

– Knowing the EU programs for the support of valuation of turistic component of cultural and archaeological heritage.

– Evaluate the importance dissemination of knowledge and of community involvement.

– Evaluate the importance of archaeological knowledge transfer in formal and informal education.

– Develop a critical reflection about the potential of archaeological tourism.
