Teaching Methods

The class is of a theoretical-practical nature: presentations and lectures supported wherever possible by reading and analyzing documents, designed to promote participation and critical thinking by students.  Apart from periodic or final evaluation (written tests at the end of the class of each professor and/or final exam), students will be encouraged and rewarded for short research/summary projects.  Experts from the City of Coimbra Historian's office will be invited to give lectures in class or schedule Meetings/Discussions on the subject.

Learning Outcomes

Students will gain a structural long-term vision (from medieval times to present day), it is intended to point out the continuities, developments and changes historically ocurring in the "territories" and the "neighborhoods" of Coimbra. Additionally, they will learn the importance of local and regional history.  Students will acquire the ability to progress into new areas: the importance and specificities of local and regional history; the potential and the indispensability of "monographic" studies; safeguarding identity and heritage; volatilization of historical sources and archives.
