Teaching Methods
The class is in a theoretical-practical format. Accordingly, the most appropriate teaching strategies and methodologies will be used for active and innovative teaching. A diligent, consistent and critical participation of students will be encouraged in order to make them actively participate in the construction of workshops and the production of a good part of their own learning. To this end, they should prepare and submit topics prearranged with the teacher, reporting, writing small research papers, organize and participate in discussions and educational seminars.
Learning Outcomes
The central aim of the class is to provide students with historical information relating to the period from the late eighteenth century until the mid-twentieth century. The perspective adopted is intended to be inclusive and diverse, covering various thematic areas (political, military, economic, social, cultural and mental), to enable an integrated analysis of the evolution of contemporary societies. We will also seek to overcome the traditional Eurocentric view, giving greater attention to places outside the Old Continent.
Skills to be developed by students:
a) identifying the major issues of our times;
b) understanding the fundamentals of today's world;
c) recognition of the differences between political systems, cultural systems and civilizations;
d) perception of the dynamics and inertia of the historical process.
