Learning Outcomes

The curricular unit Multimedia Journalism focuses primarily on practices and techniques. Baring in mind the conceptual and theoretical framework, the unit will provide knowledge in video and audio capture and edition, and also in structuring digital narratives and platforms. The students will be invited to assess the formal characteristics of the available digital media and to develop different approaches and solutions that suit the medium. Debate over the  work that has been developed shall be encouraged, aiming to upgrade the ability to critically analyse the multimedia and digital production. The evolution of the digital lexical and visual domain will be discussed, from desktop publishing to the world wide web.

The students will be invited to develop multimedia communication competences aimed to produce optimized content for their means of diffusion.

1. Multimedia projects production

2. Video: shooting and editing

3. Audiovisual syntax and concepts; rules and techniques; image composition, framing and typology of shots

4. Computer-assisted journalism and precision journalism the web in the construction of the news

5. Debate over the new journalistic practices: citizen journalism, depth vs. speed, the blogosphere effects, ciberculture, accessibility of new means of diffusion, new challenges in traditional media

6. Interfaces, technologies and means of digital production and diffusion.
