Teaching Methods

Most sessions will consist of the lecturer's lectures based on powerpoint presentations, seeking students to discuss the slides in the presentation. In addition, different visual and documental study materials such as photographs, documentaries, films and news will be shown, whenever appropriate.

Learning Outcomes

To provide students with an understanding of multiple approaches to the study of communication, reinforcing the emphasis on relational theories of communication. The course also offers communication theories that complement the theoretical approaches to communication course taught in other disciplines, thus allowing students to have contact with a wider range of different perspectives in thinking about communication.

Students should be able to: recognize various dimensions of interpersonal communication and media, distinguishing between technical and interactional aspects; deconstruct the naturalization of communication in distinguishing between technical and interactional aspects; to be familiar with some of the main foundations of communication theories.
