Recommended Prerequisites
Background knowledge required for the achievement of the defined objectives are: History, Philosophy and Theory of Education, as well as the capacity for analysis and discussion of concepts, texts, ideas and educational practices from a theoretical perspective
Teaching Methods
Multiple methodologies will be used, with particular emphasis on presentation, reading (individual and in group) and analysis of articles and texts, discussion / debate and individual study.
Learning Outcomes
This Curricular Unit (UC) aims to enable the reflection and critical analysis of the principles, concepts and structuring themes of education. In this context, we start by exploring, deepening and clarifying theoretical foundations on the anthropological assumptions, the nature, purposes and values of education, without forgetting its protagonists and its political dimension. Secondly, these fundamentals will be revisited from the perspective of the relations between history and culture. Finally, we will analyze some issues in education.
The following learning outcomes are expected:
- To discuss (the role and importance of) the theoretical foundations of education.
- To reflect on education from a historical and philosophical perspective to discover its meaning.
- To develop the capacity for reflection, analysis, interpretation, research and argumentation on contemporary educational issues.
- To analyze theories and policies on education.
