Teaching Methods

The presentation of theoretical contents will be used in association with the active participation of students, through discussions, document analysis and production (printed, audiovisual, and digital), and group work.

Learning Outcomes

The unit of Education Media invites students to critical analysis and reflection on media reality and on the educational challenges offered by media. The aim is to create opportunities to build knowledge around major theoretical perspectives and lines of research about the action of media and contribute to the simultaneous development of a personal attitude of critical autonomy regarding media discourses.

Skills to be developed:

- to reflect upon the social and educational impact of the media;

- to distinguish different approaches of the interface between education and media, namely the education in media, education with media, and media education;

- to understand the evolution of studies and theoretical perspectives about the action of media;      

- to discuss some of the main topics related to media influence, which have been under investigation;

- to reflect on the role of family, school and education regarding media literacy.
