Lecture method associated with the use of pedagogical practices that promote independent work of students and their active participation in the learning process, such as presentation and discussion of texts and conducting work group.

Learning Outcomes

The curricular unit Analysis of Educational Policies aims at contributing to the understanding of the evolution of educational policies as a reflection of contemporary changes associated with a redefinition of the role of the state in a context of globalization.

At the end of this curricular unit students should be able to:

- Know concepts, theoretical perspectives and research studies in the field of Educational Policies.

- Develop skills of critical analysis of educational policies.

- Understand the evolution of educational policies and their relation to social change and political forms of the State.

- Discuss the growing influence of transnational regulation and the recontextualization of standardized global educational models.

- Know the recent development of educational policies in Portugal.

Syllabus

1. Educational policy - the complexity of the concept. Theories and values. Educational policy and public policy. Educational policy as process.

2. Transformations of education and society. The crisis of the welfare state. State Models and educational ideologies. From government to governance.

3. New forms of regulation of public action in education. The transnational regulation, national regulation and local regulation. The role of international and supranational organizations in the definition of educational policies

4. Evolution of educational policies in Portugal. From the revolutionary period to the present.
