• exercises practicing the recognition of vowel sounds and consonantal sounds and its pronunciation

• comparison between the graphical aspect and its phonetic realization in different contexts;

• exercises the pronunciation of phrases and texts from different registers and typologies;

• verbal teacher-student interaction and inter pares interaction;

• listening poems, songs and texts;

• filling in blank spaces;

• exercises in perception;

• identification of a minimal pair of words;

• phonetic record;

• metalinguistic reflection

 

Learning Outcomes

The overall objectives match those defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for level B. Laboratory course aims to develop phonological competence and a level corresponding to B ortoépica, both in terms of listening and speaking proficiency, the relationship between graphic and phonic units will also be addressed and systematized.

The independent user B2 “Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation.

  Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.

  Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options”

a. The vowel and consonantal sounds in the normative variety of Portuguese language (review);

b. 'Glides' and decreasing oral and nasal diphthongs (review);

c. Hiatuses and rising diphthongs (review);

d. Correspondence sound / spelling;

e. The main stress in verbs and no verbs words;

f. Reduction of unstressed vocalism;

g. Syntactic phonetic’s phenomena

   . sibilant consonants in the final syllable;

   . backquotes, dissimilation and assimilation

h. Rules for placing the accent mark;

i. Phenomena of vowel alternation in nouns and adjectives and in verbs;

j. Intonation:

   . sentence types: declarative, interrogative (with pronouns), imperative and exclamatory;

   . intonational contrasts between declarative and interrogative sentences
