Teaching Methods

Learning Outcomes

Portuguese Language the course unit develops lexical and grammatical content leading to an advanced oral and written communication, using long and demanding texts, fluent and spontaneous utterances on complex subjects concerning social, academic and professional contexts.

• Heritage: History and Culture
• News
• Travel and Leisure
• Citizenship
II. Grammatical content:
a) The classesof Words
• Nouns and adjectives: gender, number and grade (irregularities); nouns and compound adjectives
• Verb: compound forms
• Adverb and adverbial phrases: place in sentence and its implications for syntax and semantics of statements
b) Syntax
• Cases where SVO order is changed
• Clitics position in relation to verbe
• Structures of coordination and syntactic subordination
c) Syntactic-semantic aspects
• Time, Aspect and Modality

d) Instruments for textual cohesion
• Coherence and cohesion - deixis and anaphora
• Direct and Indirect Speech
e) Sociolinguistic and pragmatic-textual issues
• Subjectivity in enunciation
• Acts of speech ( said, explicit, idioms, irony)

Evaluation (75% of mandatory class attendance). It will also be considered: • Active participation in class: 40% • Final exam (oral and written): 60%: 100.0%
