Introduction to Computer Networks. Communication Protocols. Fundamentals of Communications. Programming.

Teaching Methods

The teaching methodology relies on two types of complementary activities that are strongly correlated both in terms of timing and content: lecture-based teaching, stimulating the discussion, interactivity, analysis and critical reasoning; execution of lab assignments, based on software tools.

Learning Outcomes

Host and network mobility are an increasingly used feature in communication networks and the current Internet, along with the growing number and types of services and applications. In addition to host and network mobility, environments in which the virtual and real worlds are linked through Internet of Things (IoT) are getting common. IoT allow a whole range of new services and applications, in areas such as industrial monitoring, security, health and environment.

The central objectives of this course are, on one side, the discussion and study – both in theoretical and practical terms – of the main aspects of host and network mobility and, on the other, the exploration of protocols, technologies and applications for IoT.

Throughout the course, students acquire key competences in terms of comprehension, analysis and synthesis of the covered topics, critical reasoning, planning and organization, problem solving, teamwork and autonomous study.
