Recommended Prerequisites

Students must have a strog background in structural mechanics and strength of materials. They should also have a good knowledge about structural analysis.

Teaching Methods

Classes run under theoretical and practical. In the classes are presented the theoretical concepts and the code formulations for the design of offshore structures. Simultaneously, some illustrative examples are solved. Students participate actively in the process of formation. Occasionally students are invited to attend lectures by visiting specialists. Tutorial lessons (37,5 hours) will be to answer questions.

Learning Outcomes

Adress the key issues involved in the conception of different types of offshore steel structures, from offshore platform structures to subsea equipment. Transmit the knowledge necessary for the analysis and design of those structures and their key structural elements, according to international regulations for structural design, including ISO and DNV standards. Deepen the knowledge necessary to the calculation of actions and loading acting on offshore structures, mainly waves and wind.

The aim is the development of instrumental skills (oral and written communication and problem solving), personal (critical thinking) and systemic (apply in pratice the theoretical knowledge and development of self-criticism and self-assessment), essential for the conception, analysis and design of portal frames or multi-store buildings.
