Teaching Methods

The teaching of this course is based on theoretical and theoretical-practical classes, supported by the analysis of texts, readings and individual work, with the presentation and debate of the issues arising from those works.

Learning Outcomes

This course provides the students with a global and coherent view of the practice and development of the “art of war” in the Portuguese empire from the conquest of Ceuta (1415) to the African independences (1975), highlighting the most important features of the Portuguese military organization and its contextualization in the different periods and spaces of the Portuguese overseas expansion.
