Teaching Methods

The Final Assessment is essentially an individual work, being the supervisor responsible for helping students to define the goals of the monograph and to identify bibliographic references that might be relevant, as well as for encouraging students to articulate the conceptual frameworks and models studied. The preparation of the Final Assessment involves some interaction between the supervisor and the student at different moments, both individually or in bigger groups.

Learning Outcomes

The post-graduation course in Social Economy – Cooperativism, mutualism and solidarity ends with the development of a Final Assessment. This is a monograph with typically follows one of the following strategies: (a) in-depth analysis, from a conceptual point of view, of a topic addressed in of the course units; (b) presentation of a case-study of an organization that can be regarded as a benchmark in the way it has been addressing an issue that is relevant to the social economy. The work is supervised by an academic that teaches any unit of the course or regularly collaborates with it.

By doing the Final Assessment the student is expected to develop his/her competencies in analyzing the organizations that operate in the social economy, with the support of relevant bibliographic references and other information sources that might be adequate. The skills of managing and organizing data, expressing ideas (both writing and orally) and critical reflection are also enhanced.
