Teaching Methods

Teaching in the classroom:

theoretical-practical, with special focus on monitoring of a business plan that students have to elaborate. There is strong teacher-student and student-student interaction in order to replicate the environment of a dynamic business environment.

Outside the classroom:

In addition to the classroom, there is a schedule of tutorial hours in which students can consult the teacher to ask questions or seek guidance for the preparation of the business plan

Learning Outcomes

LO1. Acquire an integrated view of the development process, stages of analysis and control of real-world investment projects

LO2. Outline and avoid some of the most common mistakes in analysis and evaluation of projects, advocating the advantages of adopting formal methodologies.

LO3. Enable future managers and economists to detect investment opportunities, assessing their viability and their implementation under uncertainty.

1. Scope of investment analysis: definition and typology of investments.

2. Notion of time value of money and profitability criteria.

3. Fundamentals of Corporate Finance.

4. Financial functions using Excel.

5. Selecting Investments between investment alternatives under specific circumstances.

6. Interaction between investment and financing decisions. Adjusted Net Present Value.

7. Cost of Capital. Inflation and tax impacts.

8. Analysis of Risk and Uncertainty. Strategic investments and real options.

9. Investment business plan.

10. Evaluation in the context of public policy: economic and social analysis and current  incentive systems
