Teaching Methods
This will be a tutorial course supervised by one or more experts. The course evaluation will consist of a public presentation and oral examination in accordance with the program rules.
Learning Outcomes
In this curricular unit students are asked to produce and present a research project that can lead to the subsequent PhD thesis.
Students who successfully complete this subject are expected to
- conduct independent research on a specific subject
- read and interpret documents and various other kinds of historical sources
- understand the key scientific and philosophical concepts
- analyze and critique arguments given by different historians of science
- make correct use of the documentation and citation techniques used in HoST
- make appropriate use of the scholarly literature in structuring an argument
- produce god judgments based on a critical evaluation of conflicting arguments
- give a qualified assessment of scientific claims
- develop skills in written and oral communication
- draw and defend their own conclusions
