Recommended Prerequisites

The recommended minimum prerequisites imply the compulsory attendance of all units of the 4 academic years, as well as the 1st semester of the 5th year.

Teaching Methods

The Integrated Master Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (MICF) includes a curricular component and an Internship component, both mandatory. In this component the student is accompanied by tutorial mode in a real working environment, whose evaluation is done by preparing a monograph and an internship report and its public discussion. The Master degree is only awarded after completion of the curricular component and the presentation, public discussion and approval of the Monograph and Internship Report.

Learning Outcomes

The internship shall provide an assurance that the student has acquired the following knowledge and skills:
a)Adequate knowledge of medicines and the substances used in the manufacture of medicines;
b)Adequate knowledge of pharmaceutical technology and the physical, chemical, biological and microbiological testing of medicinal products;
c)Adequate knowledge of the metabolism and the effects of medicinal products and of the action of toxic substances, and of the use of medicinal products;
d)Adequate knowledge to evaluate scientific data concerning medicines in order to be able to supply appropriate information on the basis of this knowledge;
e)Adequate knowledge of the legal and other requirements associated with the pursuit of community pharmacies;
f)Preparation, testing, storage and distribution of medicines in community pharmacies;
g)Preparation, testing, storage and distribution of medicines in hospitals;
h)Provide information and advice about medicines.

- Pharmacy organization and management;
- Functions related to the supply, storage and inventory management of medications and health products;
- Preparation of medicines;
- Interaction pharmacist / patient / medicines;
- Dispensing of medicines;
- Scientific information and documentation for using in a Pharmacy;
- Pharmaceutical prescription.
The following activities are also provided:
- Training in administration of vaccines;
- "Sifarma 2000" theoretical and practical training;
- Pharmacareer – III Edição
- A Day in the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society;
- A visit to the Whole Saler Pharmaceutical Cooperative PLURAL;
- A seminar about “Human Resources Management - Developing a CV and preparing a professional job interview”
-A seminar in Hospital Pharmacy and its aspects: the experience of the CHUC Pharmacy.
The student is also allowed to carry out supplementary stage in Pharmaceutical Industry, Whole Sales or other relevant areas in the field of medicines, up to 4 weeks.
